Principal Microbiologist Job Locations US-MN-Eagan ID 2024-13915 Overview Element Eagan has a current opening for a Principal Microbiologist. The Principal Microbiologist position is a highly dynamic and team-oriented position that supports client needs for both custom and standardized testing, plans and directs Bioaerosol work as needed to improve methodology for efficacy evaluation, and maintains awareness of advances and changes in the test methodology which supports the registration of antimicrobial products as bioaerosols. The Principal Microbiologist effectively communicates with management and others in the company to share information, offer ideas, and think creatively to effectively solve client testing problems to support registrations of new and novel antimicrobial products. Responsibilities Responsible for ensuring successful progression of bioaerosol projects through method development, design of research and development projects and implementing or validating new methods or adapting current methods. Continually assesses, adjusts and improves the bioaerosol microbiology laboratory operational processes to maximize productivity and efficiency. Facilitates training of new and custom microbiology laboratory tasks for all microbiology lab technicians. Monitors bioaerosol employee schedule levels to provide feedback on capacity needs and available capacity. Assists with the development of and performs, evaluates and interprets Research and Development (R&D) projects with the guidance of the Account Manager, Technical Manager, Study Director and/or General Manager. Responsible for generating and maintaining strict documentation of raw data to ensure a high level of scientific integrity in accordance with regulatory requirements. Responsible for the documentation and maintenance of applicable training records. Performs general and supplemental laboratory duties as needed. Reviews raw data paperwork generated by the R&D Microbiology Laboratory. May assist with developing and refining new and existing Standard Operating Procedures and forms. Utilizes all financial, operational, administrative, and technical resources needed to accomplish the responsibilities of this position. Responsible for contributing to the Microbiology lab SQDC metrics as determined by the 5S and SQDC Coordinator. Closely monitors/control/reports project progression to ensure project is completed on schedule and meets client requirements. Serves as liaison with client contacts and manages day-to-day communications of projects. Evaluates and assesses project results, provides recommendations for future improvements. Provides support to the commercial team, attends customer visits, and/or conferences when necessary. Effectively communicate with and coordinate the activities of cross functional team members including commercial, operations, quality assurance and management. Communicate effectively with internal personnel, as well as external customers. Build teamwork within the bioaerosol department and all other company departments. Oversees bioaerosol employee scheduling levels for optimal service and to provide feedback on capacity needs and available capacity. Implements systems and communicates processes intended to prevent recurrence of routine control failures or unplanned deviations in the bioaerosol laboratory. Other duties as assigned by senior management. Skills / Qualifications Able to understand published methodology to adapt existing test methods, develop new test methods and ensure accuracy. Able to supervise employees, set objectives and work goals and standards, give direction, delegate to, and motivate employees. Able to assist with HR-related functions including hiring and selection, orienting and training, managing performance, disciplinary action and recommending the termination of employees. Ability to maintain records and prepare reports and correspondence.
