DESCRIPTION OF WORK

 

As a civil engineer in this position, you will be responsible for a wide range of duties related to the design, construction, maintenance, and inspection of dams and other civil engineering projects for the Bureau of Forestry and Bureau of State Parks. Your primary role will be to support senior civil engineers and section chiefs in the design of various projects, including dam rehabilitation and removal, marinas and docks, boat ramps, erosion control structures, streambank stabilization, roadway stabilization, retaining walls, concrete slabs, culverts, and bridges. Additionally, you will assist with dam inspections in Forest Districts and State Parks, identifying necessary repairs and coordinating with outside consultants for rehabilitation projects. Throughout the design process, you will also be responsible for reviewing proposals and submissions to ensure compliance with departmental standards. Overall, this role requires a strong understanding of civil engineering principles and the ability to work collaboratively with other engineers and stakeholders to ensure the successful completion of projects.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with 60-minute lunch.
  • *Telework: *You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time up to 5 days per pay period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. 
  • Salary:* *In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS *Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:*

  • Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or
  • Successful completion of the Civil Engineer Trainee training program (commonwealth title); or
  • One year of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline; or
  • Four years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and an engineer-in-training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists, and an associate's degree in civil engineering technology or a closely related engineering discipline.

*Necessary Special Requirement: *

  • This position requires possession of a valid Class C driver's license.

*Other Requirements:*

  • PA residency requirementis currently *waived  or this title.*
