Semester: Fall 2024
Position Summary and Purpose: The EHS Co-op focuses on the safety of daily manufacturing processes by developing new solutions to identify and minimize potential threats or risks. The person will assist in the numerous facets of EH&S.
Duties and Responsibilities:
May assist with the evaluation, creation, and implementation of Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs)
Monitor and improve EHS measures in a working environment
Works closely with the manufacturing operations team to investigate and develop corrective actions for all safety issues
Inspects the facility to identify safety, health, and environmental risks
Supports health and safety for all departments of the company
Monitors compliance with safety procedures
Ensures that safety data sheets are maintained and readily accessible when needed
Maintains records of discharge of or employee exposure to hazardous waste and/or pollutants, as required
Must be comfortable engaging union hourly employees and union leadership
Performs other related duties as assigned
Education and Experience:
Working toward a bachelor degree in Operations Management, Environmental, or Occupational Safety discipline
Strong customer orientation
Adopt and promote lean practices in all activities, considering the elimination of wasteful resources for any goal other than the creation of value for the end customer
Planning ability to think ahead and plan over a two year time span
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Characteristics, etc.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software

Physical demands: Employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use of hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Work environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but can be loud at times.
