- Employee will be knowledgeable of and follow all safety rules, procedures and practices. 2. Employee acting in conjunction with supervision or individually as directed by supervision will assist and/or direct the training of other employees in the correct operating procedures necessary to fully satisfy the classification duties of Welder/Fitter or other duties with which the employee is familiar. 3. Employee will, when directed by supervision, report to assigned locations for the purpose of receiving training and will actively participate in the training activities. 4. Employee will carry out assignments in training for and/or performing fire fighting and first aid. 5. Employee will exhibit an adequate competency level pertaining to activities delineated in the Duties and Qualifications sections of this job classification. Demonstrate such competency via performance of job duties and training and testing programs administered at intervals prescribed by Louisville Gas and Electric to assure correct classification of employees. 6. Employee will, during the normal performance of his duties, watch for and promptly report to supervision any damaged or defective equipment or conditions which may cause damage or injury. 7. Employee will perform such other duties as directed by the Supervisor that are necessary to Company operation and are within his/her capabilities. 8. Employee will keep all equipment, tools, materials and work areas in a clean and orderly condition. 9. Employee will report as directed to any facility for any shift where needed. 10. Employee will perform work in a responsible and cooperative manner to facilitate a positive working environment. 11. Employee will compile information and generate reports, forms and documents as required. 12. Employee will represent the Company to the community with attention to the highest standard of conduct, appearance and attitude. 13. Employee will report, to proper supervision, job progress and all problems, or other factors which affect the job, except recommendations for disciplinary action. SPECIFIC DUTIES Duties which may include, but are not limited to: 1.Employee will operate construction equipment including, but not limited to, truck cranes, backhoes, front end loaders, and dump trucks. 2.Employee will perform maintenance on tools. 3.Employee will make position or rolling welds on pipe and fittings of all sizes. 4.Employee will measure and fabricate all types of piping connections, using fittings as required. 5.Employee will weld repair fittings on all size and pressure gas mains, as pipe conditions permit. 6.Employee will make repairs to gas lines by welding various leak repair materials on pipelines where system pressure permits. 7.Employee will perform welding for tie-ins. 8.Employee will make cuts into pipelines when directed and safe to do so. 9.Employee will perform all welding and cutting and fabricating required for maintenance and construction of gas mains and services. 10.Employee will prepare material for welding or cutting. 11.Employee will weld on coupling harnesses. 12.Employee will be responsible for welding machine and other assigned equipment and tools. 13.Employee will perform necessary welding and fabricating of other equipment and devices required in operation and maintenance of gas systems, or in other departments if needed. 14.Employee will cut metal of all thicknesses. 15.Employee will maintain a working knowledge of the current edition of the Gas Department Welding Procedures manual. The workmanship of the employee may be required to comply with the following code: DOT Part 192. 16.Employee should be able to perform all aspects of hydrostatic and pneumatic testing. 17.Employee will work in construction crew as a crew member when equipment is down or Welder/Fitter work is unavailable.
Must be able to lift 55 lbs. from the ground to the height of 30 inches and from waist level to chest level on a daily basis; Typical equipment/materials that must be lifted includes but is not limited to valves, pumps, motors, reels of cable/tubing, etc.; Able to climb up and down stairs and vertical and inclined ladders unassisted on a daily basis; Perform hand manipulations extended from your body and near floor level for extended periods of time on a daily basis; Work with hands typically involves but is not limited to turning valves, breaking bolts, and working on pipes, meters, and wells
1.Employee must have demonstrated a proficient knowledge of the current edition of the Company's welding procedures. 2.Employee must pass the welding test required by the L.G.E. Gas Department Welding Procedures for gas system welding and maintain such status by passing periodic welding tests as required. 3.Employee must have demonstrated a working knowledge of pipe, fittings and valves related to construction and maintenance of gas system and their proper usage. 4.Employee must have demonstrated a working knowledge of acetylene welding, brazing and required equipment. 5.Employee must have demonstrated proficiency in the operation and use of cutting torches and related equipment. 6.Employee must have demonstrated proficiency in the knowledge of construction, maintenance, safety practices and methods used in the Gas Distribution Division. 7.Employee must have demonstrated the ability to perform simple arithmetic functions (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) encountered on the job. 8.Employee must have demonstrated the ability to accurately make sketches and read and understand blueprints and drawings, to make changes and additions to the prints as directed, and to recognize and report possible mistakes on the prints. 9.Employee must have demonstrated proficiency in the use, selection and maintenance of tools and equipment normally used in the job. 10.Employee must be proficient in all the duties of welding and cutting as performed in the construction and maintenance of the gas system. 11.Employee must demonstrate a proficiency in the applicable codes, regulations and procedures relating to construction and maintenance of gas facilities and related duties. 12.Employee must have demonstrated proficiency in pipe and fitting fabrication including in the use of beveling machines, line up clamps and other related tools. 13.Employee must have a working knowledge of and be proficient in Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) 14.Employee must have a working knowledge of and be proficient in Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW). 15.Employee must be capable and qualified to weld on all pipe sizes and grades present in the company’s distribution and transmission systems.
Exposure to heat, cold, wind, rain, etc. as well as exposure to loud equipment noises and odors. Frequent driving, and walking. Must be capable of wearing assisted breathing devices (respirator). Heavy lifting and hand-digging excavations will be required.
Required Education & Experience:
1.Employee must meet all general qualifications of employment. 2.Employee must be able to speak, understand, read and write English, and be able to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. 3.Employee must meet all qualifications as required by Federal, State and Municipal regulations as applies to this position. 4.Employee must be able to learn to use the tools and equipment required in the work. 5.Employee must be thoroughly familiar with the Company Safety Rules and willingly see that they are enforced. 6.Employee must have a valid state driver's license and pass the Transportation Department's driver's test for operating Company vehicles, including those with manual transmissions. Additionally, employee must have a valid Commercial Driver's License. 7.Employee must be willing to work inside and outside under varying weather conditions. 8.Employee must be willing to report as directed to any facility for any shift where needed. 9.Employee must be in good health and be able to perform the physical requirements of the job, which include heavy manual labor. 10.Employee must be willing and able to communicate through both verbal and written reports. 11.Employee must have demonstrated ability to carry through work assignments, and conduct himself/herself in a manner that encourages cooperation and satisfactory work from others assigned to work with him/her. 12.Employee must have demonstrated the reliability and leadership ability necessary to train subordinate employees, coordinate the work of subordinate employees and elicit the cooperation of fellow workers. 13.Employee must be rated qualified for entry into this classification under the Louisville Gas and Electric Company's Employee Performance Review Program and have satisfactorily completed all applicable training and testing programs. 14.Regular attendance is essential for satisfactory performance of this position. 15.Employee must successfully complete such entry level testing programs as are promulgated by Louisville Gas and Electric to measure job responsive aptitude, ability to retain knowledge, and problem solving skills.

Gas Distribution Operations
Employee will perform a variety of welding and cutting duties in support of Gas Distribution operations, primarily on pipe but not restricted to pipe as some work is performed on flat and irregular shaped metal.
