Job Summary:

Serves asa journeymanmechanicthatperformsskilled work and resolve technical issues in the installation,testing,maintenance,andrepairof Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (HRAC) systems. Conducts inspections and analysesof theoperations of HRACsystems,identifiesproblem areasand performs preventive maintenance or corrective actionsto bring HRAC systems to satisfactory performance. Recommendssystem replacement when inspectionsidentifyequipment end-of-lifedeficiencies. The work also includesthelubrication of bearings, replacing belts, and inspectinggaskets, seals,andpneumatic and electrical controls. Ableto proficiently read and interpret schematic drawings,blueprints, andO&M Manualsto effectively carry out workassignments.Worksin conjunction with electricianstoprovide safe power to equipmentand HRAC Instrumentation and Control Mechanics to deliver fully functional HRACsystems.

Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities:

• Performstheinstallation,troubleshooting,corrective and preventivemaintenance,and repair ofHRAC systemsto include complex centrifugal chillers, direct expansion, and chilledwater-based cooling systems,air handling anddistribution equipment.

• Performs the safe introduction and recovery ofHFC, HCFC, and CFC refrigerants.Maintains refrigerant exchange logs/recordsIAWFederal and State requirements.

• Perform repairs and maintenanceof reach-in, walk-in, stand-alonecommercial refrigerators, ice machines, central plant chillers, free standing A/C Units,androof top units.

• Creates andsubmitsrequisition forspare parts and supplies forHRAC units. Ensure proper part descriptionandmodel number are included toeliminateincorrect part ordering.

• Performs repairs,maintenance,andpreventativemaintenanceforventilation hoodsin labs, cafeteria’s,refrigerant monitoring systems, and ventilation systemsutilizing, VFD’s,DDC controls, motorizeddampersand or BAScontrols.

• Assistson facilityair test and balancingprojects, commissioning, and retro-commissioningprojects upon request.

• Inspect and test components installed by other contractors.

• Perform quality assurance inspections on completedHRACprojects; ensures conformance with institutional standards, mechanical codes, OSHA regulations, lock out-tag out, confined space protocols, Material Safety Data Sheets, engineering specifications, and other regulatory requirements.

• Uses a computer to create, compose, and edit technical and/or administrative reports and documentation.

• Coordinates and monitors maintenance by outsidespecialtycontractors, including replacement and repair of mechanical, electromechanical, and controls equipment.

• Monitors and coordinates the installation of new equipment, to include training, documentation, andestablishingmaintenance procedures.

• Read, interpret, and modify HRAC electrical, electronic and/or microprocessor schematics blueprints and logic controls.

• Coordinates with other trade and warehouse personnel in the identification of proper and correct materials, partsassemblies,and requirements for a variety of requisitions necessary for the job/task.

• May perform various lower classified duties such as (but not limited to) file maintenance, workspace cleanup,maintainwarehouse space.

• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties asassigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• Works independently. The Section Supervisor provides general supervision. Assignments may involveprovidingtechnical guidance to other technical and maintenance personnel. Accountable to the Section Supervisor foraccomplishingassigned functionsin accordance withcontract requirements, Army/DoD regulations, and applicable federal and state laws and codes. Has authority toaccomplishall assigned functions, with general guidance from supervisor,in accordance withcontract and Army/DoD requirements and various codes.

• Requires the use of company vehicle.In order tooperatea vehicle, individuals must be physically capable ofoperatingthe vehicles safely and mustpossessan appropriate validstate motor vehicle operator’s license.

• Any combination equivalent to experience and education that couldlikely providethe required knowledge, abilities and skills listed above would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

• Experience –5yearsof progressiveexperience in the maintenance and repair ofa varietyofHRAC systems.

• Education – Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade,supplemented by the equivalent three years of technical course work inHRACSystemsor DOL Apprenticeship Program.

• 5 Year journeyman experience.

• Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, tactful and cooperative in dealing with others, and speaks and understand English.

• Must have organizing and coordinating skills.

• Must have knowledge of theory behindHRAC systems operations.

• Must have ability to work in elevated locations.

• Must have the ability and skilled in the use of personal computers and related software applications.

• Must have ability to analyze, assess, and reconfigureHRAC systemsoperations within area of specialty.

• Must have knowledge of instrument calibration standards and tolerances.

• Must have ability to communicate effectively orally, face-to-face, in a group setting, on the telephone, and in writing.

• Must have ability to understand oral and written instructions; read and prepare wiring diagrams and blueprints; prepare andmaintainaccuraterecords, reports, and job cost estimates.

• MustpossessUniversal 410-A Safety & Training Certification or ability to obtain within60days.

• Must have the ability to successfullyaccomplish, complete and/or pass, any Continuing Education (CE) trainingdeemednecessary.

• Must be able to distinguish color codes on wires and electronicdevices.

• Must be able to work in the stooped position,cancrawl, climb, twist, hear, see, perform precise muscular movements of hands, walk over uneven terrain, and work in confined spaces.

• Must hold a Universal CFC Certification.

• Must be able to receivea favorable adjudicationofa National Agency CheckInvestigation.

Physical Demands:

• Work is in a variety of weather conditions,frequentlyin cramped conditions such as in electrical cabinets and mechanical rooms and may berequiredin hazardous or emergency situations.

• Requires the close observation of digital or analog displays and data printouts todeterminecompliance with performance standards.

• Must be able to distinguish color codes on wires and electronicdevices andperform precise muscular movements of hands.

• Some tasks, such as installation and maintenance, entail climbing ladders and working at heights over 10 feet above the ground.

• Maintenance and repair projects maynecessitatethe use of small hand tools such as saws, hammers, and screwdrivers.

• Transportation of equipment to a job site may require carrying20–50-poundobjects for short distances over rough and uneven ground.

• Alarm sirens at the work site require that technicians be able to hear audible warning devices.

• Work in confined space may require the use of a self-contained breathing apparatus.
